I have been keeping fish for over 25 years. I have had my own cat
& dog grooming business for over 18 years. I worked in
the aquarium industry for over 8 years. In the end of that
career, I was managing the fish dept of a major million dollar pet
shop. I was responsible for stocking, cleaning, medicating
& selling fish for 70 tanks.
Presently, I have 10 tanks. 6
are puffer tanks. I have extensive knowledge of FW (mostly oddballs)
& BW fish & their care. I have moved some of my BW
fish into a 55g SW tank along w/clownfish & damsels, but am new to
that end of the hobby. I have a 90g w/several rare Plecos,
rainbowfish,
synodontis, Corys, Leaffish, purple spotted gudgeons (spawning pair),
loaches & my prized, yellow-finned Chalceus. I have a
total of 14 puffers. A 12" Fahaka puffer (Tetraodon
lineatus) in a 125g, living with 10" Adonis & 10" gold
spotted Plecos, 2 (6") green spotted puffers (t nigroviridis), a
5" Ceylon puffer (t fluviatilis) in a 55g living w/a clownfish
& several damsels, 2 South American puffers (Colomesus asellus)
& a dwarf puffer (c travancoricus), living in a 50g w/a blood
parrot, frontosa cichlid & royal pleco & 3 figure 8s (t
biocellatus) .
I co-own a pufferfish website:
THE PUFFER FORUM. I have been a scuba diver for over 5
years, logged over 200 dives & am an underwater photographer. I
ride my own 1982 custom Shovelhead Harley-Davidson. My Jack Russell
Terrier (Lulu the Wonderdog) rides on the back. I love to garden. |

I got into aquariums when I was a kid and I've never lost interest,
keeping everything from goldfish, to tadpoles, to an octopus, to
African cichlids, to live corals.
I can't think of much that I haven't kept at some time or
another, really. I guess
you could say I'm quite addicted to having aquatic pets of some sort
or another.
I
majored in zoology when I started college, but somehow ended up as an
invertebrate paleontologist and went on to teach college-level
geology, biology, and environmental science for several years.
Somewhere in there I also managed an aquarium shop and spent a
summer working as a diver/collector for a marine livestock wholesaler
in Florida. For 5 years I
owned an aquarium installation and maintenance business, as well.
Additionally,
I've managed to pen a few small books and a lot of articles, and have
taken something along the lines of 7,000? aquarium and underwater
photographs. Like I said,
I'm an addict when in comes to this sort of stuff.
Aside from all that though, other things I like doing are
drinking beer and riding motorcycles (but never at the same time, of
course). And, I also
enjoy traveling, hiking, and fishing a great deal as well. Outdoors stuff.
As
a last note, I got tired of what I was doing, felt quite burnt out,
and decided to try something completely different (for a while at
least). So, I basically
threw in the towel and moved to Japan.
I've been teaching English here, and enjoy it great deal, but
"different yet good" is about all I can say without writing
a book about it. And yes,
I have a marine aquarium here, too...

I've been in and out of the hobby for over thirty years dating back
when I got my first fish tank at about 12 years old. Since
then... I am the founder of the Bucks County Aquarium Society, I have
authored many many articles for FAMA, TFH, and AFM. I have
written 5 books for TFH Publications on various fish topics. I
teach 4th grade in the Philadelphia Public School System. I have
just finished writing a children's chapter book and am actively trying
to get it published. Anyone out there? |
Alesia Benedict A
self-admitted, over-the-top anal-retentive hobbyist, Alesia's entry into the
hobby was not how most people get started in fishkeeping. Instead,
Alesia's first tank was a 90 gallon, heavily planted discus tank,
complete with power compact lighting and CO2 injection. (See? She
really is "over-the-top!"). Shortly, she had about 10 big
tanks in a one-bedroom apartment, focusing mostly on planted discus
tanks. Her off beat style and desire to aid others in succeeding
within the hobby lead to her writing articles for TFH and FAMA, being
appointed to the Board of Directors of her local fish club, attending
numerous conventions, and going on collecting expeditions -- and that
was all just in her first year! Knowledgeable, outspoken and quirky,
Alesia's easy going style was a natural fit for Conscientious
Aquarist, and we invite you to enjoy her writings and shared
information. Always willing to help out other hobbyists, Alesia can be
contacted at AquaticBlondeGal@aol.com |
