Caracanthus maculatus (Gray 1831), Spotted Coral Croucher. To two inches in length. Indo-Pacific; Indonesia to Polynesia. Lives amongst Pocilloporid and Acroporid coral branches. Aquarium photo.

Caracanthus madagascariensis (Guichenot 1869). The Spotted Croucher. West Indian Ocean. To 5 cm.

Caracanthus typicus Kroyer 1845, Hawaiian Orbicular Velvetfish. To 1.7 inches total length. Lives in the protection of live coral, particularly Pocillopora eydouxi. Big Island pic.
