Octopus cyanea, Gray 1929, the Common Reef Octopus. Indo-Pacific; Red Sea to Hawai'i. Common reef species. This one in KBR, Lembeh Strait, Sulawesi, Indo.
 

Amphioctopus (formerly in the genus Octopus) marginatus (Taki 1964), Coconut or Veined Octopus. Known for bipedal walking and using/carrying shells about for shelter. Body about 3 inches long, arms twice this long. This one in N. Sulawesi, Indo.



Thaumoctopus mimicus Norman & Hockberg 2005. The Mimic Octopus. Celebrated, though not as much as the Wonderpus (another Octopus sp.) for its still and active posturings pretending to be a Mantis, Lionfish... to avoid predation, sneak up on food organisms... N. Sulawesi
 

 

Wunderpus photogenicus Hochberg, Normal & Finn 2006. Here is the "king of mimic octopi" the Wonderpus... able to mimic many marine creatures in a very short while... changing its repertoire if others "don't work".  A juvenile here in Raja Ampat, Indo.
