Scarus frenatus Lacepede 1802, the Bridled Parrotfish. Indo-Pacific. To 47 cm. in length. Initial phase here in Queensland, Australia; terminal in the Maldives.

Scarus fuscopurpureus (Klunzinger 1871), the Purple-Brown Parrotfish. Western I.O.; Red Sea, Somalia. To 38 cm. Here in the Sinai, 2019; initial phase at right, terminal/male below.

Scarus genazonatus (Randall & Bruce 1983), the Sinai Parrotfish. Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. To 31 cm. in length. Feed on algae growing on coral, rock. Sharm el Sheik, Red Sea pix of a terminal male.

Scarus ghobban Forsskal 1775, the Bluebarred Parrotfish. Indo-Pacific; Red Sea to Peru... a Lessepsian species, found in the Mediterranean. To 90 cm. in length. Feed on algae growing on coral, rock. Pix of initial and terminal stage individuals in the Galapagos.

Scarus gibbus Forsskal 1775, Now Chlorurus gibbus. See under that genus.

 

Scarus guacamaia Cuvier 1829, the Rainbow Parrotfish. Western Atlantic; Bermuda, Florida to Argentina, northern part of the Gulf of Mexico. To nearly four feet in length. Bahamas and Tobago pix of initial phase/females.

Scarus iseri <formerly S. croicensis)(Bloch 1789), the Striped Parrotfish. To 35 cm. Tropical West Atlantic. Feeds on plants; often Thalassia. Juveniles with three black body stripes, transparent tails. Initial phases with yellow around the nose and eye, translucent tails. Adults with orange patch behind the pectoral fin, yellow patch lower, no distinctive bordering on tail. Here is an initial phase and a terminal individual in Grand Turks. http://fishbase.org/Summary/

Scarus niger Forsskal 1775, the Dusky Parrotfish. Indo-Pacific; Red Sea, eastern African coast to Japan and the GBR out to the Micronesians. To sixteen inches in length. A juvenile in S. Sulawesi and a terminal/male individual in Pulau Redang, Malaysia.  http://fishbase.sinica.edu.tw
