WWM stats server, our influence 7/22/05
All, esp. the newer folks, our stat.s server addy:
http://urchin01.ewr.datapipe.net/
username and password: WetWebMedia
As you'll see/find, WWM "takes up" some forty plus days of people's lives
per day... not counting cached views, the parts that are transliterated into
nine other languages, hundreds of thousands of links to us... A pervasive,
palpable improvement in the world. I thank you, BobF |
Re: An offer to help promote your business
1/26/08
Hello Bob, thank you very much for the offer. Needless to say we will take
you up on that.
<Ah, good. Am hopeful the promotion will aid your enterprises>
I have included the required attachments.
<Will add today>
I have also included the overflow article update and bio, they were sent a few
weeks ago, so I am assuming you did not get them.
<I did not. Thank you for the follow-up. Did you want to sell the article into
the pulp-print market/s first? If so, make this known and I will begin
forwarding (CCing you) the work to probable editors>
My email client likely struck again! I have been struggling, learning more about
computers since setting up our site and getting involved with WWM. Again, thank
you, it has been a privilege and a pleasure to help out when and where I can,
Scott V.
<Ahhhh! Thank you my friend. BobF>
Re: An offer to help promote your business – 1/28/08
The ad looks great!! Thank you again.
<Very glad to abet your efforts Scott. Saw your site is larger, much improved>
I will keep you posted on the traffic/sales that come through WWM if you like.
<Ah, appreciated>
I am all for printing the article if you think there may possibly be a market
for it.
<Will send out today then, and cc you re>
Ultimately I hope it could be posted on a particular website I am fond of, you
know the one, I am sure! Talk soon, Scott V.
<We will buy and post it after it runs in the pulp press. Cheers, BobF>
WWM, sponsorship/advertising input –
12/6/07
Good Morning Bob,
I am considering what you have pointed out about product sales. It is hard for
me to think that way because I am such a fan of you site. I started out amazed
at the info available then I started admiring the business you built.
<Thank you Steve... but... WWM is not really commercial, a business. Is
definitely NOT leaning in this way. IS intended to inform and inspire folks
interested in ornamental aquatics primarily. The issue of return on investment
in your promotion dollar is VERY important to me... Am willing to encourage your
advertising with us ONLY if it makes you money>
I do not know if you remember me but I used to email you and suggest if you
started using PayPal people can donate, sign up for membership and pay to
advertize easily.
<Mmm, vaguely... yes. And likely due to your prompting, we and I do have PayPal
acct.s now, and do accept payment for ads thus.>
Not that I know better than you but I figured you must be working 16 hour days
to cover all your bases as it was.
<Happily I am 'retired' (i.e. don't have a day job)... my bills are paid for by
investments made over decades time>
I am sorry but I am not sure what you mean
“Am still a giant fan of the idea of urging you to write up something for us to
buy, post with credit, links to you, your business... Maybe your instruction
set? BobF”
Can you break that down to layman’s terms for me?
<Oh yes. Sorry for the confusion. My thinking is that instead or in addition to
a purposeful ad, that your business would greatly benefit from your having an
article or three on what these tools are, their application... Along with pix,
your contact info.... And that this information be linked to articles on WWM on
Plumbing, Through-Puts, Overflows... maybe you already have this done... largely
as your 'instruction' set that you send out with the bits>
Also I have a ad for you to consider
Thank you again Bob,
Steve
<Will have a look see... about how this might fit. Thank you. BobF>
I'm back! 4/5/07
Hey Bob...
<Brian>
If you don't remember I was the owner of Reefers (www.acropora.com) that went
belly-up a few years ago. Well I'm back in the industry working for ZeroEdge
Aquariums. I've been out of this industry for about 6 years, but I liked this
tank so much, I decided to become active again. Just wanted to send you a note
to say Hi.. as I'm sure we'll be running into each other in the near future at
one or most of the upcoming shows. I would like to get your input on this tank
anyway, so be prepared to be wrangled to the booth.
Take care!

Hi Tania:
<Howdy from BobF as well>
Thank you for your inquiry about advertising in Conscientious Aquarist!
We are always interested in quality advertisers for our online publication.
What is the nature of the product/service that you will be advertising?
I am cc'ing Robert Fenner, the owner of WetWebMedia, who would be better able
to answer your questions regarding advertising in Conscientious
Aquarist/WetWebMedia.
<Ah, yes>
Generally, we'd like to have materials no later than 2-3 weeks prior to
publication.
We look forward to working with you! Thank you once again for your interest!

Thank you Bob. Our materials won't be ready until towards the end of this month,
so I think placing a top banner ad in July/August, Sept/Oct and Nov/Dec issues
would fit our timeline more (I'm assuming you publish the 1st of the month- so
we wouldn't be able to get you materials in time for May/June publication).
<No worries. Can be uploaded in a very short while>
The advertisement would be for the Southern California Caulerpa Action Team.
SCCAT is an organization made up of state and federal agencies and funded by
grants.
<Ah, yes. Am familiar>
We're focusing on getting the word out about Caulerpa, an invasive saltwater
seaweed of which nine species have been banned in California because of its
ability to quickly overtake native species. (You may have heard of it's effects
in the Mediterranean Ocean.)
<Yes... am a steady supporter/proclamator re NOT releasing anything to the wild>
Most recently, two eradication efforts in Southern California took six years and
more than $7 million to complete. We want to avoid this happening again and have
an outreach program to educate people on how to recognize it, how to dispose of
it properly so it doesn't get into our waterways, and learning why they
shouldn't use it. We're using advertisements as one medium to get the word out,
and are also looking to place articles in publications.
<We have very wide readership, a pervasive influence. Cheers, Bob Fenner>

Bob thanks again for your time on the phone today. I mistakenly called your Kona
home number thinking I would reach you in San Diego....OOPS! I do not have your
local home number but here is what I need form you for us to make a decision
today on the ad:
<Oh, our SD number is 858 549 XXXX for your records>
You mentioned a two for one deal but no specific cost related to that. To be up
front it may be easier to let you know what our budget is that we have to work
with and we can get for that. We are looking at $300 max per month at this time.
We will monitor the success (ROI) from this and decide if it makes sense to
throw more $$$ at it as we grow our business.
<The offer I make is the right shared border (the "static" ad space of 100 by X
pixels...) PLUS the Rotating Banner Ad (468 by 60)... For the low, low price
of... what you're offering... the Three Hundred U.S. per mo.>
Thanks again for your help with this and for the great Kona info as well!
<I do hope we can/will all make it out there sometime soon. Oh, forgot Pete's
email last time... He's cc'ed above...>
P.S. - Bob, when you have a moment can you provide me with the contact
name/phone number or email address to get info on your house rental fees etc.
<Ah yes... the Jabulani addr. there above... and his phone: 858 722 XXXX...
FWIW, you're welcome to come out sometime when I'm there (go out every few
months, generally for a month or so at a time, more if folks will be coming to
visit/stay) for free... Do keep in touch re times...>
I am planning to head out to Hawaii sometime later this year with my girls and
my girlfriend (the plein air painter) and son may join. Is there is
web site with info on the house or can you tell me a little about the location,

Mike/Bob,
<Hey Rene!>
We are considering a right side bar ad but would like to know what type of
info we will get from your software tracking tool.
<Mmm, I've got such a deal for you! I'll place a right shared border AND the
rotating one at the top of all the marine and reef pages... for the price of
one!!! Part of the reason... We're new... and want to prove the new Banner Ad
Program... And secondly, because I've finally figured out how to send out the
stats site:
http://wetwebmedia.com/aspbanner/bannerstats.asp
for it... The right shared border you can track through the stats server info
here:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/wwmsponsors.htm
With the locating of your gif, jpg... You can see the ones for the sponsors we
have already... yes... tens of thousands of click throughs...>
For me to get budget and
maintain ad space I need to be able to justify with some sort of ROI
(imagine that...) that our ad bucks are making solid sense.
<Oh yes... Understood, and completely agreed. If advertising with us doesn't
work, we don't want to mis-use your promotional funds either>

Coral Frenzy 3-13-07
Hello Bob,
<Ken>
We were wondering if you would be interested in trying out Coral Frenzy?
It is an all in one coral food. We list out everything that is in CF on the
label and on our website. We also stamp the date that it was manufactured right
on the jar, so you know how exactly when it was made.
<Have heard and read good things about your product... But, don't tell anyone...
I actually only have a couple of good-sized African Cichlid systems going
nowadays... Heeee!>
We know that nothing is more nutritional than live and then the next is
frozen. The problem is that the majority of people who keep reef tanks don't
have the time, desire or discipline to feed those two ways. That is where Coral
Frenzy comes in, nothing on the market currently has as many different
ingredients, and for some reason none of them care enough to tell you what is in
their products. Then to top it off, you don't know if that product was made
last week or last year.
<Yes>
We are constantly improving our product. We are always working with our
suppliers to improve their ways of processing in order to achieve higher
nutritional values.
We have wanted to contact you for some time now but we didn't know how you would
be.
<Heeee! About the same ole!>
Scott Groseclose from Aquarium Specialty told us that we should drop you a line.
<Hello to Scott!>
Have a great day and we hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
Ken Easter

Re: Coral Frenzy 3-13-07
Hi Bob,
<Ken!>
Thank you for the quick reply. You are a funny man.
<So I've been told...>
Do you think WWM would be a good market for us to advertise with?
<I do... we have a very large collection of friends, associates who ARE the
growing, sustainable portion of our interest and trade... As you will see by
perusing our stats server, look over the site itself.>
You know your viewing market a lot better than we do. If you think it would be
a good avenue for us to use could you send us some advertising information?
<Oh, yes. Certainly. Our "spiel" is here:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/wwmsponsors.htm
along with the location, password for our stats server...>
Thank you again for your time.
Ken
<Thank you Ken. Bob Fenner>
Hello from Poconofishy... WWM revenues... 3/10/07
Hi Andy,
I hope this find you well. This is Michelle Lemech, Poconofishy from NJRC. I'm
not sure if you'll remember me, but I spoke with you at the NJRC holiday
party. You showed me pictures on your Blackberry of you beautiful reef tank. I
volunteer on the crew here at WetWebMedia and I though your company might be
interested in doing some advertising on the WetWebMedia website. We've just
gained the ability to place rotating banner ads on the site I've included the
letter that is currently being circulated and I've also included the most recent
website monitoring statistic.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Michelle

Robert M. Fenner, author of The Conscientious Marine Aquarist, would like to
announce that his website www.WetWebMedia.com now has newly created advertising
space available. We presently have advertising space in the forms of both
rotating banner ads and right side bar stills (Not sure what the "technical"
name is here.) To celebrate this new development, we are currently offering
special rates. Sign up for 10 months and get 2 months free.
Who are we:
WetWebMedia (WWM) is a website that offers Aquarium, Pond, and general aquatics
information by Bob Fenner & the WWM Crew. Bob is a well respected world renown
authority, and has been in the aquarium/ aquatic trade for over 40 years. (Boy,
that makes you sound old) The WetWebMedia website currently receives over
15,000 unique visitors per day, and more than one million page views per month.
It is one of the most popular and well regarded websites of it's kind on
the Internet. This can be demonstrated by accessing our stat.s server: http://urchin02.ewr.datapipe.net/session.cgi
and Username and Password: wetwebmedia (case sensitive). This tool and our
tracking software with your password, as well as a tool on our Rotating Banner
software, will allow you to keep tabs on your advertising effectiveness with us.
What we do for you:
We keep your customers in the hobby. It is estimated that 80-90 percent of the
hobbyists, your real and potential customers, give up on the hobby within one
year. To fight this trend, www.WetWebMedia.com is dedicated to providing
accurate, timely, useful information to the hobbyist to help keep their corals,
plants, fishes, and other organisms alive and healthy and thus keep them in the
hobby. This obviously benefits everyone. By sponsoring WetWebMedia you
ultimately will realize more customers because, more will stay in the hobby
rather than getting discouraged and giving it up for good. Your company has a
website and pays dearly for print and/or internet advertising. We encourage you
to look at what your return on investment could be by advertising on
WetWebMedia.
What we offer:
We offer two areas for your logo or banner on our website, the right sidebar and
the top border. The top rotating banner spot is 468 by 60 pixels and is the
premium spot for an ad, receiving about a million views per month. The rate for
placement on the top border is $300 per month for our root (Marine/Reef) web and
$500 universally (counting all six subwebs and our online magazine, the
Conscientious Aquarist). The right side bar is also popular and the rates for
placement there are only $200 per month. For little more than $7.00 per day,
your ad or banner will be seen by many thousands of hobbyists daily. For your
convenience we have PayPal capacity and offer an annualized discount of twelve
months for the pre-payment of ten.
Other services also include high quality image work and written content for your
website or print.
Sincerely,
Bob Fenner, Mike Kaechele

Ad space, pricing. 3/9/07
Hello, Mr. Fenner, hope you are doing well.
<Yes, thank you>
I am writing you this as an employee of a small saltwater store with an
on-line site hoping to do more sales on-line. I have a couple of questions for
you, first do you offer a one month trial to see how things go.
<Mmm, yes>
The store doesn't pull in a lot of money so we would want to see if on-line
sales increased before committing to a full year.
<I am in total agreement.>
Second, how many hits per day do you receive on your site that have ads visible.
<Mmm... twenty some thousand... Our stats server and contact info. is posted:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/wwmsponsors.htm>
My name may be getting stuck in your head I have emailed you several times on
my own behalf.
Thanks, Ryan Nienhuis.
<Ah, yes. Oh, and a hundred dollars a month for the root/marine-reef web per
month for a few months will do. Bob Fenner>
Re: Ad space, pricing. 3/9/07
Thank you for your reply. Either my computer is having issues or the link
you sent be is "down', I cannot connect with it.
<<Mmm, just checked:
http://urchin02.ewr.datapipe.net/session.cgi
and wetwebmedia for both the log-in and password works now...>>
Just had one other simple question regarding your last statement.
<Ah, yes. Oh, and a hundred dollars a month for the root/marine-reef
web per month for a few months will do. Bob Fenner>
What I don't understand is what parts of the site are covered by the
root/marine-reef web. Could you please explain that to me? That is all, thank
you.
<Is the main/base of the site... All the saltwater articles, FAQs, indices...
some 12k plus files... All that would be pertinent to your store. BobF>
Ryan.
Thank you [signed] 1/8/07
While I haven't actually asked you guys a question yet, I've read the
questions/answers of many others. Your helpfulness has not only helped them,
but has helped me in various situations. I was wondering if any of your
sponsors (such as that fish place) give you a referral commission. This way, I
can order products I need and support your great site.
Thanks for all your help,
Zach
<Thank you for this Zach... we don't have such a contractual arrangement with
our sponsors... But they do in fact "pay" up front for their links on our pages,
underwriting the ISP (Internet Service Provider) fees, in turn sponsoring many
Crew visits to pet-fish get-togethers, computer upgrades, scuba dive
certifications, adventure travel... I do hope that folks mention WWM in their
dealings with these fine companies... I assure you that the people involved are
very aware of the good that we all do/share here in helping others... that
directly and inadvertently builds the trade, their business interests. Cheers,

Hey Bob,
Place the image in your appropriate banner image path e.g.(\bannerImages),
change the image path in the script to the appropriate link e.g.
(www.wetwebmedia.com/../bannerimages/omega.gif) and you should be good to
go. If you have any headache with this call me tomorrow and I'll try to help
you. I should be around most of the day - working.
<Great! Am going to give this a go later... after doing the WWM thang>
Also, if you think this is something you may want me to take over completely on
an ongoing basis my dive funds this year look pretty bleak at this point.
If I can do some animated gifs for your ads and be your banner ad
consultant/whatever - I got to find a way to get in tropical water in 2007.
<Ah, yes... will make you a big offer of selling the ads and making the gifs...
for the first months revenue for any/all... or pay as we go for help and the
gifs... Am quite anxious to get going on this>
Also, check out this rock I found out about way off the Maui coast (by the Maui
Prince hotel).
<Very nice. Am going to make this the WWM pic of the day if you don't mind...
Like the Holocentrus rufus grp. and the endemic Cirrhitid. B>

a few bucks to help us pay the bills. Click

Paypal donations - 4/11/2006
Hi Bob,
Thank you for the best marine info site in the world!!! I want to donate some
money to help pay the bills and I do every thing on the net by PayPal.
I understand if you want to stick with the Amazon thing you have going but just
wanted to know if PayPal is a option.
Thank you Bob.

Re: Paypal donations - 04/11/2006
This is in response to your inquiry regarding Pay Pal and making
donations to WetWebMedia.com. I think Pay-Pal is only set-up for
merchants who sell things from their website. I couldn't find a donation feature
anywhere on Pay-Pal's website
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_profile-comparison
The Amazon Honor system doesn't accept pay-pal payments. I have an account with
Amazon and have not had any problems thus far
with them having my credit card information.
Cheers,
Mike
<I see... thought perhaps they had some "donation" set-up/category... Rats!
Want to watch "Hitchhiker's Guide this eve? BobF>
Re: Paypal donations - 04/11/2006
Hey Bob,
I just looked over your site and it now lists PayPal as a alterative!
<... on our site? Or PayPal's?>
A person can send money to a merchant and just chose that he does not want to
disclose what it for and as a PayPal merchant or like when I sent you I put
that it was for services I have received money for unspecified reasons with no
problems. I have been using PayPal for about 10 or 11 years and the only
problem I have ever heard of is for payment of items that are not legal or
something like porno. Even so most lets say software pirates and music,
video pirates etc. all run with PayPal. Paypal just want's to make lots of money
and seems to care less about why the money is being sent or received.
Until someone complains, a good guy like you is the last thing on their mind.
I think PayPal is the easiest and most commonly used money exchange on the net,
even Marine Depot takes PayPal and will bring in more money for you.
From the time people decide to send money and maybe get distracted or lose
interest is only a few seconds (at most) your best chance has to be a few
clicks away (at most).
Just think if you could get a buck or so from just a small percent of the people
reading your forum !
Yours,
Steve P.
P.S. I do not make any money or even get credit for pushing PayPal.
<Heee! Thank you for this Steve. Miguel, do you savvy? Can we sign up, ad?
BobF>

I went to the Amazon payment site. It would not allow me to enter the amount
I wanted to donate as it exceeded the maximum. I reduced the amount intending
to donate twice and I was told to select the credit card type and press
continue. The word 'continue' did not appear on the page. You might want to
talk to Amazon about this as I would like to make a contribution in thanks for
all the help you folks give me.

Re: Can't Make A Donation - 04/01/06
Eric-
Went back in upon receiving your email. I sent two payments of
$50.00 each.
I think they may have gone through. I'll check my account to see if they
have been deducted. Its pretty screwy as I did not receive email
confirmation. I'll let you know. Please keep your eye out for the two
$50.00 donations.
I can't thank you enough for all the terrific information I get from
your site.
Best regards,
Ed
<Thank you for your efforts and report Ed. Am asking MikeK who handles this
to check into our "begging bowl" at Amazon. BobF>
Re: FYI - Just want to bring this to your attention Can't Make A Donation -
04/01/06
There is a $50 per transaction limit to donations when using the
Amazon donation system. Here is the Q&A from their site:
<Thanks Miguel. Will share/post. BobF>
Are there any limits?
Yes. Much like a credit card limit, there are limits on the
total Honor System payments you can make in a given period.
Similarly individuals accepting payments through PayPages are
limited in the amount they can receive. The maximum dollar
amount we can process for any individual transaction is $50,
unless otherwise noted on the PayPage. At this time,
contribution and receive limits are set and cannot be raised.
Other than that it seems to be working as it should. Thank you
for the generous contribution.
Mike
Re: Can't Make A Donation - 04/01/06
Dear Bob/Eric/et al.
The contribution has been debited from my checking account. While the
transaction was completed it was far more complicated than necessary.
<And MikeK was able to find out something more from the folks at our Amazon.com
begging bowl... fifty U.S. is the limit for such donations>
Once again I want to thank you for the information you provide. I find
myself on your sight daily. The system I am designing is very different from
the
one I initially considered. If I had given in to my initial impulses I
would be very discouraged by now.
Best regards,
Ed

Thank you for the prompt response and thanks for the suggestion of placing a
screen over the anemone; I think I'll have a difficult time finding a clear
(don't want to limit the lighting) colander but I can build a housing made
of egg crates and tie wrap it to the LR that its on;
<Sounds good... should let in much more light, can be custom/sized>
the anemone hasn't
moved which tells me that she is happy where she is at (although I'm not
because she's facing the wrong way).
<Can be moved later... when in better health>
Thanks for the advise on not mating the
maroon clown; I failed to realize that such a small system could be deadly
for a new maroon clown; I rather not take such a risk. Thank you again for
taking the time to respond.
<Welcome. Have had Premnas bite me (but good)...>
On another note; is there any another way to financially support the site;
maybe a personal check? I didn't get that cozy feeling when I read through
Amazon's Honor System which then lead me to their Policies. They want too
much personal info that's not necessary for the payment IMO. Plus they leave
the personal info on their server.
<Had not even considered this impediment... am sensitive re such processes as
well. We will/do gladly accept donations... made out to WetWebMedia, can be sent

I am doing sales (*for 8 years already) for Hiatt Distributors, one because
I think the products are really good and I use them, but also on a
commission basis.

I am looking for new stores to pick up the line, and would like to place
banner ads in several places to get new distributors. If you would like to

an anemone and two clown fish, within 24 hours, and keep them long term this
way, it really works.

Potential Advertiser - 12/11/2005
Hello Bob, you may have received an email from me last week. It should
have been sent by my office since I am just learning how to use the computer, we
have at least 20 people online in our offices, I have a 17" screen on my desk
but I turned it into a TV. So this is my third email on my own. I am one of
the owners of Ecological Labs, we make the Microbe-Lift line of products. Our
web site is now under re-construction. Supposedly it will be the latest and
greatest whatever that means). My brother and I now have 4 kids in the business
and they're taking over. I think you spoke to my brother in 91. the company is
30 years old now and we sell just about every distributor and independent lawn
and garden center our pond products. We only have 2 products for home aquarium
but we do sell them to "That Fish Place", and "Drs Foster and Smith" as well as
about 30 pet product distributors.
<Good companies>
We loathe the big box stores and only do business with the "independent

It's like it will be one big Wal-Mart one day. Because our Microbe-Lift line
does so well in the pond category and many pet dealers are carrying pond
products and we see them at over 50 trade shows we do, they keep pushing us for
our formulas home aquariums, so were going to do it and we're working on over
250 SKUs now. So we will be really interested on coming on board with your site,
we do a lot of advertising to consumers (we have plenty of dealers and
distributors). You can look up our present site at

full time nationally recognized pond author who is doing a monthly news letter,
we will have a forum, we're putting out our own magazine "the Microbe-Lift

independent retailers.

hello bob, u may have received an email from me last week. it should have been
sent by my office since i am just learning how to use the computer, we have
at least 20 people on line in our offices, I have a 17" screen on my desk but
i turned it into a TV. so this is my third email on my own. i am one of the
owners of ecological labs, we make the microbe-lift line of products. our
web site is now under re-construction. supposedly it will be the latest and
greatest (whatever that means). my brother and i now have 4 kids in the
business and their taking over. I think u spoke to my brother in 91. the co's
30 years old now and we sell just about every distributor and independent
lawn and garden center our pond products. we only have 2 products for home
aquarium but we do sell them to "that fish Place", and "Drs Foster and Smith"
as well as about 30 pet product distributors. we loathe the big box stores
and only do business with the "independent retailers". i guess were old

Sponsoring, Using WWM 10/22/05
Mr. Kaechele,
My name is Kristy Winters and I represent Tropical Fish Outlet. I viewed the information related to becoming a sponsor and would like to know more about
the images and written content that you describe as an additional service. Can you please provide me with an overview? Also, what is the turnaround
time for getting our Ad to appear on your web-site once we do become a sponsor? I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Kristy Winters
<<Kristy,
Thanks for showing interest in becoming a WetWebMedia sponsor. The turn around time on placing your ad is instantaneous. As soon as I receive your
ad I will place it. In regards to purchasing images and written content I will refer you to Robert Fenner. Please let me know how you would like to
proceed.
Thanks,

<I also thank you for your interest. Content for internet use is available on a sliding cost scale depending on volume. Images in quantity are ten
dollars per, articles are one hundred dollars. Bob Fenner> Donation??? I can't find a link 10/11/05
Mr. Fenner,
<Sean>
I spend so much time reading and learning I feel it appropriate to make a small donation to help support further info on
WWM. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a link to do so. Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks, Sean P.

palpable improvement in the world. I thank you, BobF

Underwater World... Sponsoring WWM?
Hello Bob, how are you?
<Hey Fred! Long time no chat, visit... May be coming your way next week...

Re: UWW sponsoring WWM
Ok Bob, let's try it out. Can you charge $200 to my credit card
monthly?
The link to my website is www.uwwe.com. Can you pick up our mermaid logo
from our website?
<Mmm, can lift and link this... but we no longer have the capacity to take
credit cards. Could you authorize through Pay Pal? I have an account there I
use for foreign content provision... or we/WWM will bill UWW for in
arrears... Which will work best for you? Thank you, Bob Fenner>

Look great Bob! But can you make the mermaid logo a little more pronounced
somehow? It looks washed out right now.

Hello Bob Fenner!
Urchin is the world's most widely deployed web analytics
system, and we have configured Urchin stats for your website
WetWebMedia.Com with the following information:
Login URL:
http://urchin01.ewr.datapipe.net
Additional Login for users:
Username: WetWebMedia
Password: WetWebMedia
NOTE: Please change this upon your first login.
Remember, you can view/download your site's raw log files at
any time via FTP. After you log in with an FTP program (or even
via most browsers at
ftp://www.your_domain.com - be sure you
substitute your actual domain for your_domain) you should see
a folder named 'W3SVC...' parallel (next to) to each site's 'web'
folder. As part of normal server maintenance, we must
periodically clear old logs. Otherwise, log files would eventually
consume all of the server's free disk space and bringing all
sites to a standstill. If you make copies of your site's log files,
we may be able to use them to reconstitute stats reports,
should the need arise. If you do not have a copy of your log files
and they're not still on the webserver (we do not back up log
files), the log files will no longer exist. This means we would not
be able to recreate stats reports in the event of a stats server
catastrophic failure. The location of raw log files is different for
*nix operating systems; the example applies to Windows
machines only (NT4 and up). Please let us know if you need to
find your raw *nix logs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Urchin can only import specifically formatted log files.
This means that only new and properly formatted log files will
allow Urchin to create statistical reports. Urchin's log file
requirements mean that the server must generate logs hourly,
(as opposed to daily or weekly).

Banner for Reed Mariculture
Bob,
I hope you had a great Christmas trip to Florida. Randy Reed from Reed
Mariculture would like to advertise on the right shared border of the
WWM.
Attached is the banner he wishes to place. Would you like me to try and
place it and if so when is a good time to do it? Randy also needs
information on how and when to send in payment.
Mike
<Will place the one (attached) for Randy/Reed Mariculture... Rand, this
OK?
We will bill you in arrears about the mid-month following. Thank you for
your support, fine products.
RE: Banner for Reed Mariculture
Hi Bob,
Somehow the banner I sent over seems to have gotten lost. Here is a new
copy of it. Please let me know if it's acceptable.
Thank you,

Re: Banner for Reed Mariculture
Hi Bob,
<Randy>
The link on your website looks great. Could you point it to
http://www.phyto-feast.com instead on
http://www.reed-mariculture.com?
That way our customers can find the product much easier. 99% won't care
a bit about our aquaculture products.
<Ahh, done! Though will take a good quarter hour to roll through the few
thousand pages...>
I'm going to try to be at the meeting that night, and then I'm leaving
the next day for the World Aquaculture show in New Orleans. See you
there!
Randy
<Great! Hope to see you then/there. BobF>

Hi Bob-
That sounds fine to me...The more exposure, the better..! I think Adam will
agree?
Reminds me- I'm due to follow up with Aqua Medic this week as a potential
sponsor...Let's keep those fingers crossed!

Advertising
Hi Bob,
<Hey there Randy, long time no chat>
Reed Mariculture has a new line of marine microalgae products for home
aquariums and my friend Paul Mansur has strongly encouraged me to be a
sponsor on your website to help promote the products. Could you send me
advertising rates and information?
<Yes, thank you for your query. A friend, Mike Kaechele, handles all our
advertising/sponsor efforts. Will cc him here>

WWM, frags.org
Hi Mr. Fenner,
<Kris>
Mike suggested I get in touch with you. In fact, I think we have emailed in the
past. I wanted to suggest an idea to you regarding WWM and frags.org.
Would you be interested in creating a WWM branded version of frags.org -- to
offer to your members? This WWM branded site would look like your site, it would
carry your advertising, and would offer the feel and functionality of the
frags.org service. An example of a site we have built for reefs.org is
www.frags.org/?referer=reefsorg. Another example is http://www.frags.org/?referer=rag.
<Mmm, no>
The benefit to you is more pages to advertise on, as well as providing a service
like frags.org to your visitors. The benefit to us is more traffic to the
frags.org service, which provides more inventory and more propagated coral
availability.
<No thanks. We don't want to align ourselves with any given product,
company>
All that is needed to move forward is your ok, I will brand the pages based on
your current website, and then provide a mockup for you to preview. Once
acceptable, we would then put a link on every one of your pages to this service
--- you could even call it "WWM frag trading" or whatever you would
like.
I look forward to your response.
Best,
Kris

<Thank you for your offer. Bob Fenner>
Question on a link, selling on commission through
banner ads on WWM
Bob,
<Robert>
I run a business called Aqua botanic. You asked me to put a link on my WEB
site to yours a year or so ago, which I did!
<Mmm, actually, I've never asked anyone to place a link to our sites>
I now have an affiliate
program, where WEB sites like yours can earn 12% commission on sales by
running my banners ads. I sell aquatic plants, C02 systems, lighting, and
even aquariums. A typical sale is over $100 and sales over $500 are not
uncommon. You could make a substantial amount of money simply by running my
banner ads on your WEB site. Would you be interested?
Robert Hudson
www.aquabotanic.com
<If it would serve our readership, possibly. We're not looking to sell anything
per se. Bob Fenner>
Re: Question on a link, selling on commission through
banner ads on WWM
Well, you did ask me to put up a link, because that was the first time I had
ever heard of your site. This was the url you emailed me to add :
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/AqGardHP.htm it is no longer valid. Does that
ring any bells?
<Nope, but not too surprising if waaaaay back. At any length, have checked and
your company name was listed as an etailer, but the link was not live... is now>
Would it benefit your readers? Are your readers interested in plants?
<Our most popular root web is marine, second is freshwater... the plant subweb
is not very complete and so would say we only have a few hundred folks (out of
about 14k per day) that "go there">
FAMA
published a four page spread of photos and an article I wrote in last
December's issue. I had three articles published in TFH. I am one of the
largest online dealers of live aquatic plants, C02 equipment, lighting,
aquariums, and all sorts of other things either directly or indirectly
related to freshwater plants. Do you have advertising sponsors?
<Yes, please see here:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/wwmsponsors.htm
We might work something out that is less expensive, or better give you a
"two-for" contract for space on both the freshwater and live plant subwebs>
Affiliate
banner ads is an alternative to having advertising sponsors. You display a
banner ad, people click on it, they go to my WEB site, they buy something,
you get 12%. It is a good way to offset the cost of WEB management, or to
put more money in your pocket. Your readers are happy, you are happy, I'm
happy. Everybody is happy! The affiliate software is a hosted third party
system, like an ISP, so it is all very secure. They are the leading
affiliate program in the world, so they are not going out of business
anytime soon. I have been in business since 1999, I am a published author,
I have a interactive forum with over 2200 registered members from over 20
different countries, I have a reference database WEB site dedicated to
aquatic plants that is second only to the KRIB, and I get over 100.000
unique visitors a month in traffic.... so I am not going out of business
anytime soon either and I have a reputation to uphold.
Does that pretty much cover it? :)
Robert
<We're not interested in a sales percentage program. Bob Fenner>
Re: % Sales offer
So you would take my banner ad as a sponsor, but not as an affiliate? That's
interesting. You would take a flat fee instead of unlimited sales
percentage.
<Mmm, we have an ever-unfolding "game-plan" that is likely better played by not
affiliating ourselves with sales through any given outlet/s>
That's a better deal for me! Less money for me to pay out! Here
is the link with more information, if you change your mind I would always be
interested.
http://coldfusion.affiliateshop.com//SignupAffiliatePage.cfm?WID=001022
Best regards
Robert
<Thank you for your interest, input and involvement in the trade. Bob Fenner>
Sponsor-WWM credit question
">Side note: I assume your site is an affiliate of Dr. Foster & Smith.
>>They are a sponsor. Also, they bought out Flying Fish Express's business.
>Do they place a tracking cookie on my machine so every time I shop their you get the affiliate credit? Or do I have to click thru your link every time in order for you to get the credit???
<Have to click through>
>>This is a very good question, and I don't have the answer. Jason most likely does.. and in any event, if possible, I suppose letting them know that you've seen them on our site wouldn't hurt.
>Let me know and I will certainly make a point of it. Have bought over $400 stuff
through there so far and counting."
<Thank you for your query, support. Bob Fenner>
Dropping your ad (to do: save until printer works, send billing)
Walt, we're dropping your Reefer Madness ad for lack of payment (3 months past due). If you'd like to re-up, please see that the six hundred dollars is sent for it (a billing will be sent USPS) plus the long-overdue PAF past balance of $750.
Bob F
Jas, Zo, drop the banner add for Reefer Madness and all other WWF, WWM mentions of WSI, PAF.
Thanks,
Bob,
Hey Bob,
Sorry to see this note. Need to get a few things straight. Does WWM ever
send a bill?
<Every month... and I've called and personally spoken with you re arrears>
when I was talking to Deborah about this she mentioned that she
does not remember ever seeing billing regarding this. Our procedure is to
give all bills to our accountant which in turn get paid. Also Reefer Madness
should be billed to the owners in Colorado and they will make sure the
accountant gets the bill.
<Mmm, never heard of anyone in Colorado>
I am not positive but I do not think any bills
have been sent to any address which is why it may have slipped through the
cracks. Also, PAF bills need to be sorted out exactly which months are owed
... before March would be me and after March would be Dave. Please
inform me with the details of this account and I will make sure it is
handled even though I am in Fiji right now for the next month.
Cheers,
Walt
<Okay. As stated in previous correspondence, if you (whoever) want to re-start the ad,
Pls pay up. Thank you, Bob F>

Stats Server
Hello Bob Fenner! Welcome to Statistics Server v6.0 The Statistics Server is
a powerful information gathering system for your website. Your website
WetWebMedia.Com has been assigned the: Server ID: WetWebMedia.Com Username:
admin Password: $apple$ This ID name is used to identify your website and its
statistics. To view live statistics for your website access the following URL
and enter your Server ID, Username and Password when prompted: http://stats15.datapipe.com
NOTE: For your reference, you can view/download your raw log files at any time
via FTP. After you log in with an FTP program (or even via most browsers at ftp://www.your_domain.com
- be sure you substitute your actual domain for your_domain) you should see a
folder named 'W3SVC...' parallel (next to) to each site's 'web' folder. As part
of normal server maintenance, we periodically clear old logs or these log files
will consume the server's free disk space; as a result, sites will cease to
load. If you make copies of your site's log files, we can use them to
reconstitute stats reports, should the need arise. If you do not have a copy of
your log files and they're not still on the webserver (we do not back up log
files), the log files will no longer exist. This means we will not be able to
recreate stats reports if a stats server crashes and we have to rebuild and
repopulate it.
Reefer
Madness Banner Ad
Skip... What's up with the Reefer Madness advertising? You told me to stall,
but I thought I should let you know that the Flying Fish spot on Wet Web Media
has just opened up. I'm not sure if you've come to a decision on keeping Pacific
Aqua Farms in its current slot, but you certainly have more options now. If
you'd like, we could swap the order, putting Reefer Madness up in the top-left
corner, and put Pacific Aqua Farms in the slot where Flying Fish is currently.
Likewise, I'd like to start you in your current slot on our chat forum http://wetwebfotos.com/talk
- you can track the statistics for the forum here: http://wetwebfotos.com/stats
- and if you haven't gotten the URL before, you can also check out the
statistics for Wet Web Media at http://stats2.wetwebmedia.com
- the domain is WetWebMedia.Com. You'll see that we get more traffic than any
related site in the pet-fish interest. I have the Reefer Madness stuff ready to
go for the Forum - if you would like to run Reefer Madness on the header of the
Wet Web Media marine pages, I need a graphic 164 wide by 89 tall to place. We're
still working on a rotation solution for Wet Web Media but probably won't have
it done for several weeks. Let me know - I'm ready to rock here, and you've got
first bid on that additional slot in Wet Web Media. Cheers, J --

Bob,
I think you tried to send me info regarding prices but nothing came thru.

Mike <''}}}<
Let's try this again. For the new banner ads:
We're pleased (very) to announce the addition of rotating banner ads on our
chatforum: http://WetWebFotos.com/talk/ at $200 per month with a guaranteed
exposure of 10,000 views (our current hit rate surpasses one million per month
and we have three banners currently). Please contact Jason Chodakowski
(JasonC@WetWebMedia.com or 619-206-7730) if interested in participating.
and the WWM (root web) sponsorship:
http://www.WetWebMedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/wwmsponsors.htm
except that we now are getting about 9000 unique ISP sessions per day (our stats
server: http://stats2.datapipe.com/_1026391600_/
and id: WetWebMedia.Com). The costs for ad-space are still the same.
Thanks Mike, Bob Fenner
Ad rates
Hi
Bob, Jas:
Without an ad counter, is it acceptable to offer the following?
$200 per mo. flat rate: menu bar ad on WWM or rotating banner on
WetWebFotos/forums.
$500 per mo. flat rate: Header ad on WWM.com header OR rotating banner on
WetWebFotos/forums and *exclusive* placement on WWforum section of choice, i.e.:
clams, equipment, fish, live rock and sand, corals, anemones, etc. and
possibly (Jas???) web page links included in search results.
I don't think the search results is a deal breaker but it would be nice to offer
it for the $.
Both on minimum 6 month contracts, 10% for payment in full up-front.
I know this *exclusive* placement locks us in at $500 per section tops unless we
use a hit counter for the banners.
Please let me know what you think and how you think we should charge. By
the hit or flat rate, and exclusive ad placement or mixed rotation.
I like the per hit idea, but maintenance may be an issue, and what if they don't
get the number of hits they bought?
A flat fee has it's advantages. We can always sell per hit banners in the
rotation on the home page.
Let me know,
Craig
Spiel added on to WWM sponsor billings
Craig et al., am adding this to the mail-outs:
And... we're pleased (very) to announce the addition of rotating banner ads on our chatforum: http://WetWebFotos.com/talk/ at $200 per month with a guaranteed exposure of 10,000 views (our current hit rate surpasses one million per month and we have three banners currently). Please contact Jason Chodakowski (JasonC@WetWebMedia.com or 619-206-7730) if interested in participating.
Have you contacted the sponsors of ReefCentral, reefs.org yet? These folks are likely our easiest, fastest signers. You can give them our stats server URL: http://stats2.datapipe.com/_1026391600_/
and password: WetWebMedia.Com
for WWM (the root web) and pitch them on sponsorship there...
and the WetWebFotos pix site will hopefully be ready soon to offer ad space as well (in place of the current "free" shared border space).

Dear Bob,
<Hello>
I don't have any saltwater fish, I have Cichlids, from 7-Stripe Frontosas to
Tropheus Moorii, but why I am writing to you is that I was thinking of maybe in
the future I would like to try a saltwater tank, the more I read up on this the
more I don't even want to try it. the Marine fish are so beautiful, well I have
been checking out the fish that I think are really pretty and one is the Orange
spot parrot fish, but I don't want one after reading all the questions and feed
back on this fish, when I went to the site Wet Web Media.com there
are advertisements of fish suppliers
<Stop! These are not "advertisements" (per se). Please look up (as
in a dictionary) what this word means. These companies are sponsors of our site.
They receive "promotional consideration" as payment in turn, with
their names, links to their sites for sponsoring WWM>
at the top of the web site and one is Foster and Smith , that is where I first
saw the Orange spot parrot fish, and wanted to purchase it, if they are so hard
to keep, and you are so against it, then why are you sponsoring That
Company?
<We don't sponsor these companies... they sponsor us. We are not in control
of their content, practices, neither are they in control of ours. Not to be
disingenuous here, let me ask you a similar question. Are you against
air-pollution? Do you still ride, drive a car? Bob Fenner>

RE: your article
Hey Bob,
Sorry, I didn't see your reply tucked in there. I really appreciate your
generosity. The site address is www.plecos.com but it is not ready to be
announced yet. I do have a page that I created for donations but its intentions
are strictly for covering the costs of hosting, domain name and some web
development programming costs. With such a narrow subject, I do not have a
chance of making a dime. :)
<A curse/blessing of our interests>
I started diving into your site. I really like your candor and helpfulness.
<And I yours>
I help a few friends with their aquatic businesses (shops, livestock retailers,
etc), I manage their websites. Can you quote me your ad costs and the exposure
they could expect i.e. page views, sessions etc. ?
<Oh, these are posted here:

Thanks again!

Hi Di,
Here is a logo I put together tonight for WetWebMedia. Let me know what you
think. If it meets your approval, have Bob put it up ASAP. Otherwise, let
me know if you want to change it before it goes up.
-Dave
On a scale of 1-10 what do you think?
<Looks very good to me... sharp, straight-forward (I would still like a "General Fish" saluting though!). Di says you two aren't ready to "do biz" and so to hold off on the placement on WWM... pls make it known when. Bob F>

as well... they must like what they see when they arrive. Anthony>

Bob,
Glad the support is appreciated! We'll keep the checks coming. We'll be out of town from 9/23 until 10/4, then it's back to business.

Bob,
Been trying to cc you on this but it keeps coming back to me. I took the

Dear Kent,
Thank you for speaking with me today regarding sponsorship with WetWebMedia.
I have formulated your questions and suggestions in a list below, which I
will discuss with Bob Fenner and get back to you soon.
In review:
1. You requested that an independent bonded auditor validate the website
hit numbers. (% by filtration)
<Mmm, don't know how to do this... but can contact DataPipe re... our statistics server link is: Stats2.datapipe.com and the password, WetWebMedia.com>
2. You stated $500 is too high for sponsorship and would consider
sponsorship at one of the lower priced options if the "hit numbers" are
validated.
<Okay>
3. Server Size - how much traffic can it handle? Growth potential hard
numbers.
<Lorenzo, Jason, any idea here? Once again we have a server that WWN, images, video is on... and our root web is on Datapipes>
4. Would WWM consider a fee per hit revenue model? Similar to Kingsnake.com
<Maybe>
5. We discussed how WWM uses the revenues received through sponsorship.
ALL moneys go back into the research, development, content and support of
WWM.
<Yes, good>
Please take a moment to review the attached flyer and visit our site. Use
the Google search at the bottom of the page within WetWebMedia. Search by
“Poly Filters” and you can see first hand that there are over 75 FAQs which
reference your filters.
<Well done Patti. Be chatting on these issues this Sunday. Bob Fenner>
Thank you again for your time & I look forward to speaking with you again.

RE: Am experimenting with the old QM logo/link on WWM
Hi Bob,
I was just about to forward you the chrome-look logo we talked
about, I feared the lo-res. gif image featured on our site wouldn't
work out well. You've done a splendid job with it and I think it
looks great. Let's just keep that one.
<Real good my friend. Onward and upward. Bob F>
Thanks,
Chris
RE: Quality and WWM
Hi Bob,
I'd love to put the QM logo on your page, It is good promo for us, plus
could even make your page look more spiffy!
<Indeed!>
Top row is good, Top right is very good, but I'm not too picky. I'd use
the hovering chrome QM logo over water featured in our too-long-running
current ad.
<Per our phone conversation, am awaiting your IT fellow sending me the liquidy hover QM logo to place on the right shared border>
Let me know what's involved.
Ciao,
Chris
<Chat with and see you soon my friend. Bob Fenner>
Top Shared Border
Bob,
It looks like the top shared border properties on the WWM got changed somehow. It's become detached from the right side border and won't scale up or down in size. I would fix it but I don't have a good enough internet connection. The way to repair it is highlight the entire top border, go into table properties, change the size of the width to 100 percent, it's probably at a set size of 800 to 900 pixels right now. let me know if you run into any problems.
<Yikes... screw-up... I tried the above... and on save is now showing the ad for the ad on another line below... will try moving back above or possibly giving it the heave ho. Thanks. Bob>

Quality and WWM
Chris, a brief note/query. Last week you mentioned an interest in ad space on our root web. Would like to have you with us. Please see here:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/sponsors.htm
We have one slot left on the top shared border (could go either side of Walt's/PA Farms) or the right shared border.
Please make it known when you're ready to have your logo/link placed... and will do.

Speaking of branding...
The upper shared border is quite crowded and if I'm not mistaken the graphic
which says WetWebMedia is among the smallest ones up there... this will hurt
the branding IMNSHO. Anyway... perhaps we can lose the "put your add here"
graphic just to free up some more space.
<Can be done easily... have changed all around a half dozen times the last two days... Many other possibilities... perhaps a less tall but more prominent WWM banner running along above the sponsors on the top shared border? Mmmm>
That and it looks like someone adjusted the shared borders again... things
get really weird when you resize the window.
<Will have to look again. Thank you. B>

Advertising Ideas
Bob,
<BWD>
I was checking if there was ever a reply from the guy from Texas that sent in a question about his fish dying but mollies surviving - my 1 question taken?
Never saw anything in my mailbox.
<Never saw this... but you might want to look at the Poeciliids FAQs page:
http://wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/poecillidfaqs.htm the original or response might have been sent, answered by someone else... Happens as others are sorting, responding...>
I then started wondering if you have ever considered adding advertisement to the responses you send people.
<Mmm, no... think it takes too much time, effort and too commercial>
Could be simple hyperlink text or html images (depending on a form the user filled
out when submitting questions). This "ask a question form" could have people enter a user id and password to submit a question - a WWM membership.
<Interesting possibility>
The membership would be free of course but could be used to build a database of WWM users - that among other things get the daily picture - and come to
think of it why aren't you advertising on the daily picture?
<Don't really know... probably the same reasons stated above>
I can see that you would want to keep this very professional - but I this can be done
carefully w/o damaging the WWM reputation. Maybe you already considered this but I think you are giving away works of art by not acting on this
immediately. You may even consider a premium subscription rate for the photos site - ultra hi res or something?
<Zo is mainly the person to chat w/ re the images... but will query all the WWM Crew re these possibilities>
Also, at one time long ago you attempted to give me the URL to a page that showed WWM's stats. When I attempt to sell Tetra (or anyone else
that's internet savy), I am sure they are going to want to see this. Does it show
how many hits are taken on the advertisers links?
<Not as far as I'm aware: url is stats2.datapipe.com
pw is our name WetWebMedia.com>
I could never get into the one you gave me because the password was incorrect. Can please make sure
some one gets me the correct url and password. Also , I'm wondering about the Contact Management system. Is that what the
adtrackdb is?. Is this a real database or a list of names and numbers?
<The latter... just a spdsht I've made up>
What I am getting at is that in looking at the WWM site I am realizing that you have actually been pretty successful in getting a number of sponsors,
especially for the Marine Aquatics section - we're running out of space!
Its my opinion that WWM may have reached its peak with the spreadsheet, call when you feel like it, can scrounge up people approach (sometimes the best
way to get things started). Maybe a more business like (but not too
serious) attack with strategy meetings and reports/results just like a marketing group would use is where WWM needs to go to bring things to that
next level. (I motion we have our first one today at your BBQ).
<Good idea. Agreed>
Also, how have you been successful in the past in selling the space. What incentives were offered - please give me the full details at the
bbq.
<Okay, hopefully Mike will be here, sober enough to explain. See you then. Bob F>
